High School Senior Planning to Attend College
I interviewed my friend, Kendall LaValle. She is currently a senior at South Brunswick High School and will be attending Rutgers in the fall. She explains how she is afraid of being away from home. She has never done anything without her parents and she feels that the college experience may become a bit overwhelming and difficult to handle at first. Also, she fears the difference between a college setting and a high school setting. One thing is she feels that in high school it is a lot easier to be acquainted with the teacher and ask for help, but in college it may become a hard task because of the large amounts of students that will be in some of her classes. Along with the professors, she is afraid of the work load and how that will affect her college experience in terms of having any free time. In addition, the size of the university intimidates her a bit because students take buses to get from campus to campus for classes, events, organizations, etc. Kendall wants to try out for the dance team at Rutgers and if she makes it, she fears having a hard time managing her time efficiently and wisely. Lastly, she discussed that she is afraid of how her living situation will be. She is planning on choosing a random roommate and wishes to live on College Ave. However, she is unsure whether or not she will get along with her roommate and whether or not she will like it on College Ave. Although she fears being homesick, she is also excited to get away from her parents a bit and just be on her own. She is excited to experience making new friends here at Rutgers and she is happy about getting out of high school. Also, she explains how she is excited to see how Livingston turns out with all the construction currently going on. Instead of taking class that are required in high school such as history, she is happy that she has freedom to choose what she wishes to take and what she wishes to study during her time here at Rutgers. She is also very excited to be continuing the legacy in her family because both of her parents attended and graduated from Rutgers University. Kendall is happy about when classes can be scheduled as well. She is tired of the routine of going to school for seven hours and then returning home to do homework whereas in college, a student schedules his/her classes whenever he/she wants. She cannot wait until she is officially a Scarlet Knight!
