Take a Peak at What RU Has to Offer!

Mom, Dad and your younger brother load up all the empty boxes and wrappings and slip into the car. Mom’s head hangs out of the window as they pull out of the parking lot and she calls “Have fun, Sweetie! It’ll be great! Call me!” You shout back that you will even though checking in with Mom is the last thing on your suddenly over-flowing to-do list. You get to your new room. The walls are bare. It’s then that you, a first year student at Rutgers University, wonder, “What will great?... What now?”

When It comes to adjusting to campus life in addition to balancing academics and new relationships, a first new student can feel overwhelmed, uncertain and even lost. In addition to be metaphorically or emotionally lost,  I mean ACTUALLY lost. In order to prevent ALL of these issues with which a first year is often faced, he or she must know a few key locations and aspects of the Rutgers New Brunswick Campus.

The Rutgers Student Center aka the symbolic heart of Rutgers and where a variety of academic and entertaining events take place, such as visits from speakers such as Billy Collins, and live music from fellow students.

First years WILL get hungry. Rather than worry about paying for or cooking food, Rutgers provides its students its students with 4 dining halls. I recommend Neilson!

It’s important to know that no matter what campus a first year may live on, resources for comfort and success are always nearby. The Douglass Campus Center can provided all the Rutgers Student Center provides when the CAC seems too far away

Classes are spread out! For a First year to feel confident enough to move about campus for class, events , visit offices or just to explore, they must be comfortable with the bus system. Know where you’re heading and how to get there!

Of all the academic buildings on New Brunswick Campus, a major of first students will have a class in somewhere in Voorhees Mall, and mostly likely, Scott Hall. One must locate their classrooms ahead of time to have the confidence that they arrive at the right place at the time!

Relieve stress about academics by visiting the Academic Advising Center of the CAC campus in Milledoler Hall. Plan out your goals and get started on your future with confidence!
Let’s get real
A major step in growing up and adjusting to college life is handling your own finances, mail, meal plan and computer needs. Records hall has it all!

Get your research and study on! Belle’s library in Beauty and The Beast < Alexander Library.
Alex has plenty of research resources and quiet places to study.

Know where to recharge!

There are various places on campus, such as the convenience store at the Student Activities Center, that provide students with the little but necessary things, like snacks, notebooks, and most importantly Coffee! ;)

Get OUT there
The football field is purging with Rutgers pride. Experiencing a Rutgers football game is a great way to feel the RU Lovin’ and a sense of true community.

When in doubt, ask about
A first year should know that regardless of whatever their issue on campus may be. Their Resident Assistant and Hall Director are always there to help!
