"Lanolin like Sheep’s Wool"

The curiosity of first year students is something that is uncanny. Whether it is meeting new people or trying new things most people would agree that college starts at your first year residence hall. A great way to meet people in your residence hall is through events held and hosted by the RA’s and Hall Director. These events are perfect to break the ice with other residents and also give students the chance to get away from studies.

I am lucky enough to live in Nicholas Residents Hall on Cook! Which comes with lots of perks.
Perk 1: Three-second walk to the dinning hall and bus stop
            Perk 2: Everyone is nice
Perk 3: Lots of musically talented people = lots of spontaneous music making
Perk 4: We have cool events that involve farm animals!
The animal science program is a vital aspect of the cook campus life, whether is pertains to equestrian or the Seeing Eye dogs. Both provide hands on learning for students. A couple of weeks ago the RA’s took advantage of cook campus’ resources. They held an event, and the guests of honor were baby sheep from Cook Farm! The babies were brought over to the lobby of my building by upperclassmen and they presented a short information session about the sheep and what it is like to work on the farm. All of which is super useful to me as an animal science major. They had a huge turnout and almost everyone in the dorm showed up to hang out with some sheep. Personally the event was a great opportunity for me in a lot of ways:
1.     I got to talk to upperclassmen in my major and ask them about what it is like to work on the farm.
2.     I met so many people in my building that I’ve never met before; most of them being animal science majors.
3.     I got a better chance to talk to my Hall director and some of the RAs. One of the RAs works at a veterinary clinic, so it was great to talk to her
4.     AND I got to play with baby sheep. SURPRISE WIN!
Overall, events like this are super important for first-year students. It gives us an opportunity to meet people we wouldn’t usually meet. And these people could be some of the best friends you will make in all four years. The RAs work hard to make your first year here awesome, and friend and activity filled. The most important part of First year Residence Hall events are to make dorm life feel like home, and make the people you live with feel like family.
