Wandering at Wegmans: The Orange Team's Excursion

Wandering at Wegmans

"The Orange Team's Excursion"

As a proud member of Team Rhymes with Orange, I went along on our excursion to Wegmans Supermarket. However, prior to going there, I had no idea what Wegmans was. Then when I found out that it was a supermarket, I thought to myself, "Now, what are we going to learn from going to a supermarket?" Well to my surprise, going to Wegmans was a great idea because I definitely learned important qualities that I can add to my leadership qualities and bring to NSO.

The tour leader at Wegmans was a wonderful woman. She showed that she valued her job and found pride in it. She showed how she loves working in customer service because she loves being of assistance to people. As orientattion leaders, our job consists of helping people. One thing that I learned at Wegmans was not turning anyone away and trying to give them heelp, however necessary. This summer, we will have to give assistance to students and parents at all times. We need to be positive and serve everyone. We cannot pick and choose who we help because everyone is equal. The goal at Wegmans is to provide customers with the bext shopping experience of their lives. They want shoppers to feel comfortable, but most importantly, be satisfied with the service. I believe that we have the same goal this summer. We want every student at every session to be comfortable, but also be satisfied at the end of their session. We want to provide students with one of the best experiences of their lives.

Another theme that I learned from going to Wegmans is the importance of working in numbers. When you worrk with people that share that common goal with you, success will be in the picture. At Wegmans, even though there are workers that work in seafood, poultry, dairy, and grain, they all come together and try to please shoppers. The workers at Wegmans bring different talents and strengths to the table. When people collaborate great ideas, the impact of the end product will be more effective. For example, towards the end of our excursion, we ate some food at the supermarket. The food showed that people from every department came together and made great food. The reason why shoppers buy products from Wegmans is because of the fantastic product that they are purchasing. A poll showed that Wegmans was in the top-100 places to work in 2011. Their work ethic, work environment, and goals are admirable. Working in numbers can be helpful and it shows thrrough the success at Wegmans.
There is a specific reason why there are 48 oreintation leaders as opposed to just one. We are 48 unique individuals who have different strengths that are beneficial for any type of leadership. We have different perspectives and we unite to work together in determining how we can include everyone's ideas to be helpful to someone else. If there was just one orientation leader, it would be so overwhelming for that person. One person cannot do everything. If we foolow in the same directions as Wegmans workers, we will have a successful summer and future.

So, I would recommend that everyone visit Wegmans at some point of their lives. The work environment is welcoming and the customers are the workers' number one priority. When it comes to the summer, as orientation leaders, are main focus will be providing service to our new students. We need to put their needs before our's. Wegmans teaches their employees that and we can learn from that. As a leader, you would want to be this type of leader and you would want people to take from your leadership skills. I believe that visiting Wegmans brough Team Rhymes with Orange closer and we gained a better insight on how to be influential leaders.
